Fox and CBS have given full season orders to their freshmen comedies "The Grinder" and "Life in Pieces."

"The Grinder" has averaged a modest 1.08 same-day rating among 18-49 year olds over its first four episodes. It's timeslot partner "Grandfathered" has fared a bit better in the ratings, but the series renewal chances may hinge on its star John Stamos, who is headed to court next month on a DUI charge.

"'The Grinder' is the perfect combination of razor-sharp wit and relatable family dynamics - two hallmarks of successful comedies," Fox Entertainment President David Madden said. "The critics have embraced this original, fresh and funny show, and the talented cast - led by Rob Lowe and Fred Savage - has done such an incredible job infusing it with biting humor and heartfelt moments. We are so excited about the storylines that these fantastic producers have planned for the rest of the season."

CBS handed down its second full season order to new comedy "Life in Pieces" led by veteran actors James Brolin and Dianne Wiest. The show premiered to 10.26 million viewers and has averaged a 2.06 same-day 18-49 rating.

"'Life in Pieces,' with one of the best ensemble casts on television, is telling terrific stories in a very unique way, and we're excited to tell many more them this season," CBS Entertainment Glenn Geller said.
