After melting America's hearts with a romantic proposal live on "Dancing with the Stars," war veteran Noah Galloway has ended his five-month engagement to fiancée Jamie Boyd. The 33-year-old former contestant, who placed third last season, made the announcement via Instagram.

"After long and careful consideration we've decided to end our engagement. We love each other deeply and we're confident we will remain friends," he captioned a selfie of the two on a beach. "While we wanted to share this you, we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."

Boyd also took to Instagram to make the reveal, posting a red carpet photo of her and Galloway with a similar comment. "We can't thank you enough for all your unwavering love and support. It has meant, and means, so much to us so we wanted to share this with you firsthand. This is a very difficult time and we appreciate y'all for respecting our privacy as we go through this."

In May, Galloway, who lost his two left limbs in 2005 from a bomb blast in Iraq, popped the big question to Boyd, an Army Reserves specialist, during the semifinals episode of "DWTS" after he and partner Sharna Burgess danced to David Cook's "Time of My Life."

"Jamie, the moment that you surprised me on the show was one of the most amazing moments that I've ever had. This song, the 'Time of My Life,' you've given that to me," Galloway told Boyd backstage after his performance.

After getting down on one knee, he said, "I've got to do this here... Would you marry me?"

"The day I met her, I knew that this was going to be somebody I was going to ask to marry me," Galloway told Us Weekly after proposing. "She's really made me a better person because of who she is and what she stands for."

Galloway has three children from two pervious marriages.
