On Monday, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" star Anthony Mackie enraged the internet when he told a BET reporter that he would endorse Donald Trump for president over Hillary Clinton. Today, the actor backtracked on his statement about the GOP frontrunner and said it was all a joke.

"Sorry Donald, that wasn't an endorsement. Just a bad attempt at a joke, I guess?" Mackie wrote on his Twitter account.

While Mackie promoted his latest film "Our Brand Is Crisis," which also stars Sandra Bullock, the actor was asked about Trump and told the BET reporter that he would "100 percent run Trump's campaign."

"Trump's an easy sell," said the actor. "When you look at Trump, he's an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you're a 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' candidate, people would identify with that."

The actor, who played The Falcon in the second "Captain America" movie as well as in "Ant-Man" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," said he was "on the bandwagon" after being asked if what he just said was an endorsement of Trump.

Despite the actor's initial endorsement of Trump, many Twitter users were quick to denounce the actor as their favorite Avenger.

It now seems safe to say that Mackie is no longer drinking Trump's Kool-Aid.
