Given Marvel's focus on the upcoming superhero team ups in "Captain America: Civil War," you'd be forgiven if you forgot there was an actual villain in the film. Yes, the entire thing isn't just about Iron Man vs. Captain America. Fortunately, Academy Award nominee Daniel Bruhl ("Rush") talked to Business Insider recently about his role as Baron Zemo in next year's film.

Bruhl, a talented actor, made it known that the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Zemo would differ from the source material. In the comics, Zemo sports a purple cloak to hide facial scars suffered when he fell into a vat of Adhesive X.

"He does not wear the mask," Bruhl revealed. "You would be surprised, it's different than what you'd think. It's loosely connected to this character. But that's what I like about the Marvel guys, some of the characters and things they're dealing with always reference to current events so my character is from a different area than you would think."

Marvel has taken several creative liberties when it comes to on-screen adaptations. And that's fine, some elements from the original comic books are too cartoonish to be taken seriously in a film. We don't have to have a bad guy decked out in a full body purple cloak.

Still, Zemo will play an important role in the film. "Civil War" is said to focus on the fallout from "Avengers: Age of Ultron," especially when a superhero mission results in collateral damage, leading the governments of Earth to call for the Superhero Registration Act. Despite the internal conflict between the Avengers, Zemo will still be "the main villain," according to Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch.

Bruhl signed a multi-picture deal with Marvel and is even rumored to appear in "Doctor Strange" with Benedict Cumberbatch. If nothing else, that proves that Zemo will be more than just another forgettable one-off villain.

"Captain America: Civil War" will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
