Blake Shelton sued tabloid magazine "In Touch Weekly" Monday over a cover story published claiming that the country singer had a drinking problem, which contributed to his divorce from Miranda Lambert, and that he was headed to rehab.

Shelton filed the defamation lawsuit with the Los Angeles County Superior Court and is seeking at least $2 million in damages over the story that his lawyers say is false, according to TMZ.

The suit against "In Touch" publisher Bauer Publishing Co. states the tabloid has repeatedly published false information regarding Shelton and his split with Lambert.

"In Touch" magazine's Sept. 28 cover story alleged that Shelton had started drinking heavily and his actions contributed to the end of his marriage to Lambert. The mag previously published a story claiming Shelton cheated on Lambert, which led to their divorce, according to the Associated Press.

"To be clear: Mr. Shelton has not hit rock bottom," the lawsuit states before accusing the tabloid of publishing the story without contacting the 39-year-old singer's attorneys or other representatives.

The lawsuit is not only seeking monetary damages, but also an injunction that prevents "In Touch" from repeating false allegations made in the disputed story.
