Like many women, Amy Schumer has struggled her whole life with body image and how to feel confident in her style choices. But while working on her movie "Trainwreck," she met stylist Leesa Evans gave her the tips and tools necessary on "how to dress and feel good."

"My sister and I, we both have always dressed badly," Schumer told Maria Shriver in an interview for "Today." "Leesa had given me this gift of showing me how to dress and feel good. And she didn't have to do this, she just did. She shopped for my sister also, and seeing my little sister wearing a little blazer and a shirt and looking just like a strong, beautifully woman, it was... to see this person I care the most about being given those tools was really moving for me."

The "Inside Amy Schumer" star also revealed how important it was to learn about the right clothes to wear when it comes to building self-confidence, an attribute she needs every time she steps out on stage to perform her stand-up comedy.

"Standing on a stage in front of people, I can't perform my best or be confident if I'm not sure - if I'm pulling at something [I'm wearing]. And sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, 'I'm not gonna go do standup tonight,'" Schumer explained.

The comedian wants to inspire more women through fashion and pass along the styling tips she learned from Evans. She most recently teamed up with Goodwill of Southern California to speak and meet with women ready to find that confidence in their fashion choices.

Schumer's other goal is to expose women to the secrets of Hollywood and debunk the myths of how actresses stay so thin in her new comedy special for HBO, premiering on Saturday.

"I'm coming out like, 'OK, here's what's going on: No one's just naturally thin. Everyone's starving,'" she said and added that she wants to "make everybody laugh and feel better, which is my goal across the board with everything."

"Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo" premieres on Saturday, Oct. 17 on HBO.
