Stephenie Meyer, the author behind the wildly successful "Twilight Saga," announced that she is still working on her gender-swapped version of the vampire love story, even after she took jabs at "50 Shades of Grey" author E.L. James earlier this week, Hypable reported. Meyer told the site why she felt that her new novel, titled "Midnight Sun" is cursed after her feud with James.

"Midnight Sun" is a companion book to the Twilight series that tells the story from main character Edward's perspective instead of Bella's, as in the oringal.

"I'm working on it," Meyer told Hypable about the companion series. "I didn't completely shelve it because of that. It was just that - I was telling this story - it feels like it's cursed. Because every time I start it, something happens and it's just like, 'ugh.'"

At New York Comic Con last week, Meyer also addressed the crowd at a panel discussion about her new book, "Life and Death," which shares the same plot as the "Twilight" series, but switches the gender of the leading characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. It's a condensed version of "Midnight Sun," which was put on hold after 12 unfinished chapters were leaked online in 2008, to Meyer's disappointment.

"'Midnight Sun' is kind of cursed," she told the crowd, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, of the 2008 leak. "What do you think was the top story on Yahoo the next morning? 'Grey.'"

It was a jab at the novel by author E.L. James, who admitted that her series "50 Shades of Grey" was inspired by Meyer's "Twilight," ABC News reported. After news leaked that Meyer was working on a gender-swapped version of her own series, James announced her own gender-swapped version of "50 Shades of Grey," which is titled "Grey."

But Meyer is still pushing forward with her plans to release the book at some point in the future, attributing her mother as the inspiration to finish "Midnight Sun."

"My mother is going to kill me if I don't do it," Meyer told Hypable. "It's more true than you know. This is all she wants from me. Every birthday, every Christmas present I get her, [she says,] 'you know what I really want.' This is my life."
