Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, popularly known as the "Blade Runner," will be released from prison and placed on house arrest next week, South African judicial authorities ruled Thursday.

South Africa's Correctional services department said that Pistorius will be released under correctional supervision on Tuesday, Oct. 20, according to Eye Witness News.

"Upon careful consideration of the facts placed before the parole board as contained in the G326 (profile report) submitted by the Case Management Committee in terms of Section 42 (2)/* 79 of the Correctional Services Act of 1998, the parole board decided to place Mr. Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision as from 2015/10/20 until 2019/10/20," the department declared, according to News24.

The family of the former Olympian issued a statement last week, in which they accused South African judicial authorities of undermining Pistorius's rights, as HNGN previously reported.

"This experience leaves us with the uncomfortable conclusion that the public, political and media hype that was allowed to develop around Oscar's trial has undermined his right to be treated like any other prisoner - as per the prescripts of the Correctional Services Act," his family said in the statement.

Pistorius, a double-amputee paralympian, was sentenced to five years in prison last year after being convicted of killing his girlfriend and TV star Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013.
