Convicted killer and double-amputee former Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, who is expected to be released from prison this coming Friday, as covered in this HNGN article, has been receiving special treatment during his 10-month stay in one of the world's most notorious prisons.

Boswell Mhlongo, another inmate at the maximum security Kgosi Mapuru II prison in Pretoria, South Africam, stated that the former Olympian was granted special privileges during his stay.

"Pistorius, he was a VIP prisoner. I mean everything was free for him. He can do whatever he wants," Mhlongo said, according to NBC News. Mhlongo further added that Pistorius' cell was made special, with amenities not found in regular prisoners' cells.

"How can you get your own gym, your own gym alone? Why the cell that we're in - we were never given curtains - but his cell was prepared special? Because he's got money. I mean it's Oscar Pistorius," he further said.

South Africa's parole board had previously stated that they had approved the former Olympian's release from prison on August 21. Pistorius has been convicted for culpable homicide, after fatally shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home in Pretoria, South Africa, reports Big News Network.

Prosecutors however, are currently attempting to have the charge upgraded from culpable homicide to murder, which would give Pistorius a minimum of 51 years in prison.
