A Florida woman got some debris into her eye and applied superglue instead of eye drops managing to glue her eyes shut.

Katherine Gaydos of Lantana, Fla., made news last week when she got something into her eyes while out blowing leaves. She asked her friend to hand her a bottle of eye drops from her purse, but the friend mistakenly handed over a bottle of fingernail glue.

"Something blew into my eye and I screamed for someone else to get eye drops out of my purse and they brought Super Glue. As soon as I felt it in my eye I felt it burn and I closed my eye and screamed 'Call 911,'" she told WBPF News.

Gaydos rushed to a doctor, who gave her an ointment and antibiotics but said that he couldn't treat her because she didn't have the money to cover the expenses, reported The Huffington Post.

It was only when she made news that the doctor's office called her back and scheduled an appointment with a different doctor. Gaydos says that the doctors don't think she'll have any permanent damage.

The Palm Beach Eye Center in Lake Worth, where Gaydos had received treatment, said that they were unable to comment on a patient without a medical release, HP noted.

While the story has made headlines, doctors say that it is not an unusual incident. "The first thing I think everyone needs to know is don't panic. There is not a single thing that is permanent that will not slough off on its own. In time it will go away," said Dr. Pankaj Gupta, assistant professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, who has handled many such cases, according to ABC News.
