On Friday, a drone crashed close to the White House, the official residence of President Barack Obama and the First Family, according to CBS News.

Police said the drone was being flown around the Washington Monument early Friday morning. It crash-landed near the security perimeter that protects the South Lawn of the White House. Two people received citations after the event, but were not arrested, according to Fox News. The citation will cost the drone-flyers $85, according to the New York Daily News.

Since the terrorist attacks of 9/11, all of Washington, D.C., is a "No Drone Zone," which means the offenders broke the law even before flying close to the White House.

The drone and its equipment were confiscated by police after the citation was issued. When asked by reporters, owner Howard Soloman III said he was trying to take pictures of the Washington Monument with the drone when the wind blew it across the street.

This is the ninth time an illegal, unmanned aircraft has been reported in D.C. in 2015 alone, in spite of the "no drone" law protecting the city and its surrounding airspace.
