The FBI discovered more than $500,000 Wednesday after digging in the backyard of a Southern California home where an armored truck driver who was previously convicted of stealing $1 million from his own truck once lived.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told the Los Angeles Times that the money was found in the denominations of of $20 and $100 bills inside a trash bin buried in the backyard of the Fontana back yard.

"Last year when we arrested one of the suspects, we found $85,000 at the same house," Eimiller said. "This is part of a 2014 robbery. We believe that thieves took about $1 million, so there is a good amount of money still missing."

The 2014 robbery alludes to the actions committed by previous resident, Cesar Yanez, 38, who pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy and bank robbery for stealing $1 million from a Loomis armored truck. He was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for the heist.

His accomplice, Aldo Vega, 28, also pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.

At the time of sentencing, authorities only recovered $115,000, most of which had come from the Fontana House, reported the Associated Press. U.S. District Judge Otis D. Wright II said he believed Yanez knew where the rest was hidden.

Eimiller revealed authorities had received a tip that prompted the excavation at the Yanez' old home. Approximately $300,000 is still unaccounted for.
