Republican presidential nominee Ben Carson followed up on statements he made about gun control and the Umpqua Community College shooting, saying that if he had been there, he would have confronted the shooter and would have asked everyone else in the room to gang up on the shooter with him, according to CNN.

During Carson's appearance on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" Tuesday, co-host Brian Kilmeade asked Carson what would happen if a gunman pointed a gun at him and asked him about his religion.

Carson responded that he would have taken action to stop the shooter rather than letting him have his way.

"I would not just stand there and let him shoot me," Carson said, according to the Associated Press. "I would say 'Hey, guys, everybody attack him! He may shoot me but he can't get us all.'"

Despite appearing to insinuate that the students did nothing to stop Christopher Harper Mercer's rampage, which isn't be true since Christopher Mintz did try to stop him and got shot five times in the process, Carson has tried to show solidarity with victims in his own way, according to the New York Times.

After hearing that Mercer had shot students depending on how they answered when asked whether they were Christian, Carson posted a photo of himself holding a sign reading "I am a Christian" which quickly went viral.
