Microsoft exhibited its new and improved HoloLens headgear during Wednesday's Windows 10 Devices event by showcasing the game "Project X Ray."

In this first-person shooter game, robots were blasted by ray guns and shields were raised in an 8-minute demo that demonstrated how the game and the HoloLens work, Engadget reports.

Microsoft calls it "mixed reality entertainment" - a mixture of virtual reality, augmented reality and holography. The first-shooter gaming experience allows the player to visualize robot enemies using the HoloLens headset. The holograms are said to adjust to its environment, thus, every gaming experience is, in a way, customized.

In addition to the headset is a controller that overlays the holographic weapon or shield onto the user's hands, giving the player the power to blast the enemies into pieces, Slash Gears reports.

Microsoft announced that the HoloLens dev kit is set to be released to game developers by the first quarter of 2016 for $3,000. This way, more games can be made available on the platform.

Early partners that have already been working with developing for Hololens include NASA, Autodesk and Case Western Reserve University, according to Gizmag.

Other products introduced by Microsoft in the event were two new flagship Lumia phones, the Continuum dock and the Surface Book, as previously reported by HNGN.
