Halal Islamic speed dating in Malaysia is a new event organized in Kuala Lumpur that caters to Muslims in the country who are seeking partners in a strictly conservative community. Courtship in Malaysian Muslims is not regarded positively and arranged marriages are the trend.

The speed dating is under halal which means it is allowed by the Islamic Law and still done under traditional laws. The Muslim women who seek to join the speed dating are accompanied by their wali or guardians until they get married, Reuters reported.

"I'm here to find someone for marriage because I'm too busy to meet anyone and I spend all my free time with my family," 29-year-old graphic designer Siti Aisha said, according to the Agence France-Presse.

There are over 2,000 single people who applied to participate in the event held last weekend in a restaurant. This was the second "Halal Speed Dating" that was organized. If matches are found to work for both the man and woman, they are not wedded immediately.

"Halal Speed Dating is the anti-Tinder. Instead of casual hookups, Halal Speed Dating is about dignified and chaperoned meet-ups with the intention of marriage. In fact, we do not condone the modern dating that is commonly practiced," said the founders of the Islamic speed dating event, 34-year-old Zuhri Yuhyi and 41-year-old Norhayati Ismail, International Business Times reported.

The first time it was held was in May 60 people attended. The latest one was during the end of September where another 60 people participated.
