The wait may soon be over, "Gotham" fans. Showrunner Bruno Heller revealed during an interview with The Nerdist that the series would answer the question of if Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) really is the Joker while also providing background to the Clown Prince of Crime's origin.

"We're going to be giving you concrete answers to his identity," Heller explained. "That story is going to come to a huge and shocking resolution which will explain the whole Joker myth and how it began and how the Joker came to be."

But wait, there's more! Heller also teased a massive overhaul of the Gotham City Police Department in the aftermath of the Maniax Massacre seen in episode two this season, "Knock, Knock."

"As far as the GCPD goes, after the massacre, it's no more Mr. Nice Guy. They start using much more ferocious tactics that are going to lead to both positive results and tragic results that Gordon had not intended. There are big changes coming as a result of that horror."

This new season has been dubbed the "Rise of the Villains" thanks to the increased focus on, duh, the villains. But in addition to Jerome, the Maniax and Edward Nygma, Heller also promised fans would meet iconic Batman baddies Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze.

"Something we're going to see this year is the underbelly of Wayne Enterprises, the Indian Hill bioengineering laboratory, the subterranean aspects of Wayne Enterprises. When we go there and see what they're doing down there, we're going to be introducing the great Dr. Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze."

The third episode of "Gotham" will air tonight at 8:00 PM ET on Fox.
