"Lethal Weapon" could be the next movie that gets made into a TV series. FOX television made a pilot commitment to a "Lethal Weapon" series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The TV series will be based on the feature film that stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. The series will concentrate on a Texas police officer and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs who moves to Los Angeles after the loss of his wife and baby. In L.A., he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh who's "getting too old for this s--t."'

The drama comes from "Forever" writer Matt Miller and producers Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz.

The original 1987 movie was a huge success and made over $120 million on a budget of only $12 million, according to Deadline. The movie spawned two sequels that grossed around $825 million worldwide.

"Lethal Weapon" is just the latest movie to be adapted to a TV series. FOX is already developing television a version of "Behind Enemy Lines" while CBS is doing the same for "Training Day." The CW is prepping versions of "The Notebook" and "Friday the 13th" and 20th Century Fox Television is shopping a reboot of "The A-Team," according to Rolling Stone.
