Though she's been on the receiving end of criticism for more reasons than one, controversial pop singer Miley Cyrus still has one supporter in Taylor Swift. The country singer defended the ex-Disney princess in a recent interview in the 2013 issue of UK Glamour, Metro reports.

"There's room for role models who make mistakes," Swift said, subtly referencing Cyrus and her now infamous performance at the 2013 VMAs. "There's clearly room for role models who are made fun of at award shows. Not that I necessarily enjoy being poked fun at, but that's gonna happen to the fans, too. Whether in a board meeting or in school or on Facebook, where they'll get humiliated publicly."

While Swift suggested that there is room for forgiveness and allowances when it comes to celebrity role models, Cyrus has expressed that she does not feel obligated to apologize for her sexual and strange duet with Robin Thicke that turned heads for more reason than one, including accusations of cultural appropriation. In her latest Rolling Stone cover issue, the "We Can't Stop" singer adamantly defended herself and her decision to grind onstage with Thicke and simulate masturbation with a giant foam finger. To Miley Cyrus, it wasn't meant to be anything other than light-hearted fun.

"Honestly, that was our MTV version," she said. "We could have even gone further, but we didn't. I thought that's what the VMAs were all about! It's not the Grammys or the Oscars. You're not supposed to show up in a gown, Vanna White-style. It's supposed to be fun!"

"America is just so weird in what they think is right and wrong," she told Rolling Stone, mentioning her oft-referenced double standard of people criticizing her for getting "handsy" with Thicke, while the "Blurred Lines" singer walked away from the bizarre duet without much flack.

"It was a lot of 'Miley twerks on Robin Thicke,' but never, 'Robin Thicke grinds up on Miley.' They're only talking about the one that bent over. So obviously there's a double standard...I wasn't trying to be sexy. If I was trying to be sexy, I could have been sexy. I can dance a lot better than I was dancing."

At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Swift performed her single "Fifteen" with Miley Cyrus, whom she referred to as the time as her "little sister." The two don't seem to be close anymore, though it seems that the country sweetheart still has respect for her old friend. As for her own career, Swift's version of an adult image does not involve getting naked for magazine covers and singing about Molly, though she has no qualms with those who choose to do so.

"My priority is not seeming like the coolest person in the music industry, or hardcore, or like some bombshell," Swift told UK Glamour. "You can be obsessed with the bad things people say and the good things, either way you're obsessed with yourself and I'm not - you can become unhinged so easily."
