Google always comes up with innovative designs for its doodle as a tribute to eminent personalities on their birthdays. This time the search-engine giant is celebrating its birthday on September 27 with a piñata doodle.

The alphabets on the Google logo have been spruced up according to the new doodle design. Specifically, when the cursor is kept over the second 'g' of the logo it shows up a stick  used to hit the piñata The user gets a maximum of 10 chances to hit the piñata and can share the points over Google+, reports gadgetsndtv.

There is even an Easter egg along with the piñata doodle that lets users see how the search-engine appeared on its birthday. Just enter 'Google in 1998' and check-out the primitive version of the site.

September 27 is not the actual birth date of Google; the company was incorporated on September 4, 1998. However, Google started celebrating its birthday on this date in 2005 after it was ranked the world's best search engine with highest number of web pages.

Google also announced its updated search algorithm this birthday. The Android developer had incorporated the changes a month before but hadn't made it public.  The new algorithm update, also called Hummingbird, is going to heavily affect traffic for other websites, Amit Singhal, senior vice president for Google, said. According to Singhal the 'redesign will affect the analysis of about 90% of the search requests that Google gets', reads a recent post on The Guardian.

Hummingbird is primarily aimed at providing better search results for long queries and includes new search tools- comparison filters, improved exploration for songs and revamped mobile apps for search.

According to Singhal, the algorithm changes will suit current Google users as they go for lengthier queries instead of keying in specific keywords in the search bar.

The California-based search engine started its journey way back in 1998 with Larry Page and Sergey Brin

In April, 2011, the company made its first move in tweaking the minimalistic and too formal design on its home page. With Larry Page taking over as the CEO for Google, the company started displaying more contemporary designs for its homepage and prospecting better search results with the inclusion of several search optimization tools over time like Knowledge Graph, Image Search Capability, Ad Sense and so on, reveals a recent post on thenextweb.
