Eddie Montgomery, of the country music duo Montgomery Gentry, lost his son Hunter, after an accident left the 19-year-old on life support, People reported. Montgomery shared an emotional statement regarding his son's death, which was posted to the band's official website on Sunday.

"Eddie Montgomery, one-half of the award-winning duo Montgomery Gentry, lost his son Hunter today after an accident that had the 19-year-old on life support in a Kentucky hospital," the statement read.

Hunter was the youngest of Montgomery's children, Taste of Country reported. He shared four children with his ex-wife Tracy, including eldest son Kevin and two daughters, Brooke and Candace.

"My son Hunter went to heaven today," Eddie said in the statement, which was shared on Montgomery Gentry's official Facebook page. "I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye."

The 19-year-old was engaged to his girlfriend after he proposed to her onstage during his dad's August 2014 concert, according to a video posted on Dan Van Media's Facebook page.

Montgomery's son's death is just another unfortunate event in a string of bad luck for the country star. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, around the same time that Montgomery Gentry split from its record label Sony Nashville. In 2014, he filed for bankruptcy after closing his failed restaurant.

Funeral arrangements for Hunter are still pending.
