The Internet has been buzzing about Miley Cyrus ever since her VMA performance but the 20-year-old didn't generate enough love to land the top spot as Billboard's "Most Powerful Young Artist."

The title goes out to boy-band group One Direction, E! News reports. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson also beat out Justin Bieber for the honor.

Every year Billboard ranks the most powerful young stars for their "21 Under 21: Music's Hottest Minors."

"They've got hit records, millions of fans, and the kind of success most musicians only dream of - and they can't even legally uncork a bottle of champagne to celebrate their success," Billboard writes.

So why did One Direction grab the top spot? According to Billboard the group has not only had a tremendously successful year in music but has also shattered records. In 2013, the group had six songs make it on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, more than other group.

They also became the first U.K. group to have two of their albums debut at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Their smash summer hit "Best Song Ever" proved to be the best idea ever when it reached no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; it was their highest ranking song to date.

"Success has never been a stranger to the dreamy dudes of One Direction - the band's star has burned bright ever since the English-Irish group graduated from British 'X-Factor' and emerged onto the worldwide music scene three years ago," Billboard writes. "But over the past 12 months, the lads have exploded with the force of a supernova."

One Direction's accomplishments don't end there either. They recently released their 3-D movie "This Is Us" which grossed over $62 million, making it one of the most successful concert films of all time.

Besides One Direction , Bieber and Cyrus Ariana Grande ranked in at no. 4 followed by other young stars like Chief Keef, Scotty McCreery, Mindless Behavior and Fifth Harmony.
