British actor Tom Payne has joined the sixth season of AMC's smash hit "The Walking Dead" as comic book fan-favorite Paul "Jesus" Monroe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the comics, Monroe was an ally to Rick Grimes. Payne will reportedly have a recurring role in the series with the option to return next season. That suggests that his character does make it out of the season alive (Spoiler alert: He's still alive in the comics).

THR describes the TV version of the character as "a rare logical man and skilled adviser with a strong sense of morals and values who is well-adapted to the new world."

"Well adapted to the new world" and "strong sense of morals" don't typically go hand-in-hand in "The Walking Dead," instantly making Monroe an intriguing character. Add his addition to the list of new characters we're excited about seeing this year (hint: THIS villain is No. 1).

"The Walking Dead" returns Sunday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. EDT.
