Two suspects were killed and two officers were injured Monday afternoon in a shootout which took place in the parking lot of a Target store in Monterey County, Calif., according to authorities.

The firefight occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. outside a Sand City Target store after two suspects opened fire at two police officers who tried to serve the individuals with warrants, said Sand City Police Chief Brian Ferrante and District Attorney Dean Flippo in a joint media briefing.

"After the officers confronted them, the suspects opened fire," said Ferrante, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel. "Both officers injured were transported to the hospital via ambulance and are in stable condition."
