Eight people were killed, including a 14-year-old boy, and another 45 were left injured during shootings that took place in Chicago from Friday evening to early Monday, the second most violent weekend this year.

One of the victims was a 43-year-old man who was found on Sunday night in Roseland on the ground, unresponsive and with a gunshot wound in the abdomen. He died of his injuries right after he was taken to a local hospital, according to CBS Chicago.

The first fatal shooting took place on Saturday evening at around 6 p.m. around the neighborhood of Humboldt Park when two unknown men appeared and began shooting at a group of people in the sidewalk.

A 38-year-old man was struck in the neck and back. He was then brought to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he was declared dead, according to NBC Chicago.

The shootings that took place during the weekend bring the number to at least 2,213 homicide victims, which is an increase of 350 from last year and 500 from the year 2013, in the city this year alone, according to the Chicago Tribune.
