"Life in Pieces" is about the Short family and chronicles their lives told from a different character's point of view, based on their own version of the events.

Lister-Jones already has one impressive resume and has written two films, "Breaking Upwards" and "Lola Versus," with her personal and professional partner, Daryl Wein.

Here are five thing you need to know about her!

1. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY

Lister-Jones was born on Sept. 1, 1982, in the Park Slope neighborhood of the Brooklyn borough, in New York City. She attended high school at Edward R Murrow High School in Brooklyn where she got a grant for a short story that she wrote.

Before she graduated in 2000, she was even the editor of her school newspaper and received a writing scholarship, according to Collider.

2. Her parents were struggling artists

Growing up in Brooklyn, Lister-Jones was the daughter of two struggling artists. Her mother, Canadian-born Ardele Lister, was a video artist and her father, Bill Jones, was a photographer and a media artist. Even though he parents were both in the arts, they did not make enough money to support their family solely through their art.

Lister-Jones' mother also worked as a teacher while her father had various jobs in the magazine industry before he settled in the cancer research field.

"I grew up in a financially insecure place because I knew that my parents were following their dreams, which has pros and cons. It was actually my mom who encouraged me to go to acting school because I was really afraid to put all my eggs in that basket," she said. "But she said to do it because I loved it. I was thinking more practically and not really listening to my heart."

3. She attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University

After she graduated from high school, Lister-Jones attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where she received a merit scholarship. She studied acting at the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School at NYU and also at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England, according to Shalom Life

Soon after she graduated she wrote and performed her own one-woman show called "Codependence is a Four Letter Word." She premiered the show at NYC's Performance Space 122 of P.S. 122.

4. She was on the CBS comedy "New Girl"

Lister-Jones was cast in the CBS sitcom "New Girl" as a love interest for the character Schmidt, played by actor Max Greenfield. On the show she played a local politician named Fawn Moscato. Her character was a councilwoman who Schmidt tried to charm in attempts to put a stop to the night construction that went on outside of his apartment.

Lister-Jones was no stranger to the world of sitcoms before she appeared on "New Girl." She was on Whitney Cummings show "Whitney" for two seasons before it was canceled in 2013 and the CBS sitcom "Friends with Better Lives," according to Bustle.

"Friends with Better Lives" was the network's poor attempt on replacing "How I Met Your Mother" and was canceled before the first season finished airing.

5. She really admires Meryl Streep

Lister-Jones said that she wanted her career to echo that of living legend Meryl Streep.

"I mean there's no one like her who's carved out the career she has. She's a leading character actress, and for women especially, that's a really difficult niche to carve out. She's constantly challenging herself to play really, really different roles," she said. "That would be a goal for me, and then, obviously to keep writing and to keep making our own work and making work in different genres."
