During a speech Thursday lamenting the crisis affecting both the Middle East and Europe, Pope Francis said there is an "ocean of pain" in Iraq and Syria, according to Yahoo News.

The conflicts in the Middle East right now, particularly in those two nations, is "one of the most overwhelming human tragedies of recent decades," said the pope. "The international community seems unable to find adequate solutions."

Leaders of the European Union met this week to discuss the migrant crisis that has affected the 28 member nations of the E.U., but did not agree on a plan to mitigate the situation. They are attempting to find a way to manage 160,000 refugees. Border countries, like Hungary, are feeling the impact of receiving so many Middle Eastern immigrants. They are fleeing civil war in Syria, terrorism and conflicts throughout the Middle East.

The pope said he is praying for those who have been affected by the wars in the Middle East, according to Rome Reports. In his speech, he asked for people not to forget about the victims of war.

He also asked for a non-violent way to end all the fighting in the Middle East during his speech, according to the Globe and Mail.
