On Wednesday at 3 p.m., the White House was temporarily put on lockdown because of an unattended package that was spotted in Lafayette Park which neighbors the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue residence. President Barck Obama was not present in the White House during this event. Instead Obama was reportedly "prescheduled to meet with veterans," according to TPM News.

The lockdown was short-lived - lasting under an hour. It was declared safe by the Washington DC Fire Department and a bomb technician, according to Newsweek. People were then allowed to walk around the White House and it's neighboring streets, according to MSN news.

The White House has been locked down due to security reasons many times in the past. In March, this happened due to an "exploding food truck," according to News Week. No one was hurt at this time and the White House has since continued regular operation.
