One lucky dog can thank a Portland man for saving his life when he fell 14 stories and survived with minimal bruising. Tom Nelson watched from his window in horror as Mordy the 5-year-old bichon frise stepped through the railing of his 14th floor balcony, according to I Heart Dogs.  Nelson, an animal lover, ran outside and across the street as he saw a visibly distressed Mordy teetering on the edge of his balcony.

He moved under the balcony, thinking he might need to catch him and sure enough, according to My Pet Source, Mordy plummeted not 1, not 2, but 14 stories.

Nelson caught him in his arms, stumbling, but remained on his feet.

"I just looked up at it and it was looking at me, and it landed right in my chest," Nelson said, according to I Still Love Dogs. He said he caught the dog for a moment, then "(it) kind of fell, it did hit the ground. It let out a yelp, but it was a huge relief to hear it yelp."

He and his girlfriend then rushed Mordy to an animal hospital and found, miraculously, the little guy only suffered a little bruising.

What a scary ordeal, but Mordy can thank the quick thinking and steady hands of a dog lover for surviving this fall!
