Sharp skips 4K TV and announces the first 8K, 85-inch TV, which is bound to cost around $133,000 when it goes on sale in late October.

Also called the Super Hi-Vision TV, it features a resolution of 7,680 pixels by 4,320 pixels. This is 16 times higher than currently available HDTVs. This also equates to four times the resolution of the 4K, which is only just starting to come into the market, reported PC World.

Because it is way ahead of the game, a setback with the 8K TV is that there is still too little content to show on it. Broadcasting for 8K will still be up for testing in Japan next year, so the built-in TV tuner won't have anything to tune in to.

The TV can still be used to watch 8K video — it just requires the source to be connected through all four HDMI 2.0 inputs at once, according to Slash Gear.

For now, the Japan-based company will just be offering the 8K TV to business customers and, so far, Japanese broadcaster NHK has expressed interest in testing 8K broadcasting with hopes to have a full service up and running in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, reported International Business Times.
