FX and Comedy Central have issued statements following the revelation that "The League" actor and comedian Steve Rannazzisi lied about escaping from the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks.

"We are disappointed to learn that Steve Rannazzisi lied about being in the World Trade Center on 9/11. It is upsetting that he would fabricate a story about having survived that horrible tragedy. It is also unfortunate that he did not admit to the truth sooner," said FX's statement. "That said, we believe Steve is sincere in his apology and will do everything he can to make amends moving forward."

FX said the network will still air the last season of "The League" despite Rannazzisi's confession, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Comedy Central also released a statement regarding the actor's lie. Rannazzisi had a special on the network in 2013 called "Steve Rannazzisi: Manchild," and has a one-hour stand-up special planned for later this week called "Breaking Dad."

"We just learned about this last night. We are very disappointed to hear about Steve's misrepresentations and are currently determining how we will move forward," said Comedy Central in its statement.

Rannazzisi said in a number of interviews that he was in the World Trade Center when it was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.

"I was there and then the first tower got hit and we were, like, jostled all over the place," he said in an interview with Marc Maron. "I still have dreams of, like, you know, those falling dreams."

Rannazzisi apologized for the lie on Twitter only after the New York Times investigated his story.
