While promoting her new album, Jewel sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss her long-lasting career and sexual harassment in the music industry. The singer revealed that she experienced sexual harassment by men for basically her entire career and referred to the music industry as "a very male-dominated business."

"I've had men hitting on me, sadly, since I was really young," she said. "At 8, I had men putting dimes in my hands saying, 'Call me. It'd be so great to f--- when you're older.' And just horrible stuff."

Jewel said that when she was just starting out her career in San Diego, Calif., her boss fired her for refusing to have sex with him. The situation left the singer completely broke and unable to pay her rent, which forced her to live out of her car, People reported.

While Jewel experienced the nasty end of the music industry, she said that she never slept her way to the top.

"The music industry is a very male-dominated business," Jewel said, according to Billboard. "I never slept my way to the top ever. There was never one time I've ever compromised anything. I was always willing to walk away...and I think that type of spirit that you bring just informs everybody that's around you. You know, I've heard plenty of stories that the opposite happens."

Jewel's 12th album, "Picking Up the Pieces," was released on Friday.
