Irv Gordon, a 1966 Volvo P1800's proud owner, has surpassed an unimaginable 3-million-mile mark in his beloved car challenging the roads with his solid determination and passion for driving.

People's obsession with automobiles is a known fact, but the 74-year-old Long Island native and retired science teacher has redefined its meaning. Irv Gordon is the proud owner of a cherry-red 1966 Volvo P1800 that just crossed a 3-million-mile mark exploring America. His passion for driving and the car's incredible mileage has created a new record for the most miles driven by a single person in a non-commercial vehicle. That is pretty awesome!

Gordon has owned the 1966 Volvo P1800 for nearly half a century and reached his 3-million-mile mark while driving on Seward Highway in Alaska, Tuesday. Although he had no plans to drive 3 million miles in his classic car, but the mileage quickly starting racking up since he bought it. Recalling the day he bought his car on June 30, 1966, for $4,150 when he was 25, Gordon said nothing stopped him from driving his car over and over again.

"I bought my Volvo P1800 on a Friday and immediately fell in love," Gordon, said in a press statement. "I couldn't stop driving the car. It was a holiday weekend, and I brought the car back to the dealership the following Monday for its 1500-mile service."

Gordon does not recall the car breaking down anytime on road but got timely services, which has eliminated any need to change the original engine but it was rebuilt twice. It has undergone 857 oil changes, 30 drive belts, 150 points and spark plugs - and guzzled 120 bottles of transmission fluid, according to Daily Mail.

The front bumper of his car displays Gordon's honors and the plate reads "MILNMILER".

With a 125-mile daily commute, the mileage quickly racked up. Gordon reached the first milestone of 500,000 in his first 10 years. But in a little over the next decade, he reached his one-millionth mile while driving a loop around the Tavern on the Green in Central Park. In 2002, he drove down Times Square to celebrate his 2-millionth mile. He has held the Guinness world record title and breaks his own record with every mile he drives.

While Gordon plans on not pursuing his endeavor to achieve 4-million miles in his car, but he hasn't completely ruled out that option either.

"Everyone asks, what's next? Well, I'll keep driving my Volvo P1800 to auto shows and taking trips across the country. Not much will change. But whether I drive four million miles is more up to me than it is the car. The car may be able to take it, but I'm not so sure about me," he concluded.
