Taylor Swift made her debut on Vanity Fair's "Powers That Be" list, carving out the top spot for herself, the Wrap reported. The magazine cited Swift's power to single-handedly bring Apple Music to its knees as the reason why she deserved the number one spot on the 2015 list.

Swift was praised for "using her platform to make giant companies conform to her will," according to Vanity Fair. The magazine referenced Swift's Tumblr post, titled "To Apple, Love Taylor," as the sole driving force that made Apple Music reevaluate the way it treated musicians and artists.

"I'm sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service," Swift explained in her letter. "I'm not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company."

She asked the music streaming service to rethink its policy and within hours, the company announced that it will pay its artists for the three months of free streaming it offered to first-time trial members.

Other noteworthy names that ranked below Swift on the "Powers That Be" list are politician and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at number nine, couple Kanye West and Kim Kardashian at number 12 and musical power couple Jay Z and Beyoncé at number 21, respectively.
