Sam Smith has just officially announced that he is the voice behind the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film, "Spectre."

The British singer confirmed on social media hours after he shared a picture of his hand donning the "Spectre" ring on Monday, as HNGN previously reported.

"This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song," Smith wrote. "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations."

The "Money on my Mind" singer recorded the track back in January and co-wrote the song with fellow Grammy award winner Jimmy Napes, who has previously worked with Smith on hits like "Stay With Me" and "La La La."

"I'm so relieved to actually talk about this, this has been top secret mission of my own," said Smith in a radio interview, shortly after making the announcement, according to BBC News"I got called into the office with Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes and they gave me the script, I read the script... they said 'have a go at the song.' It's the quickest I've ever written a song - it took 20 minutes... and they loved it!"

"I love the song so much," he added.

The track is titled "Writing on the Wall" and will be out on Sept. 25.
