Rockstar Games' latest sensation "Grand Theft Auto V" hit store shelves on Sept. 17 and surpassed $800 million in sales in just 24 short hours. These sales mark an all-time high for the series as well as its parent company Take Two Interactive. The most surprising thing about the rousing success of "Grand Theft Auto V" is the fact that only half of the title's promised features are available. Rockstar released "GTA V" with just the single player component on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and won't be launching the highly anticipated "Grand Theft Auto Online" feature until Oct. 1.

When it launches, "GTA V Online" will feature a dynamic online world for up to 16 players at once. Unlike the single player campaign which will pretty much end with the completion of all of the game's missions, the online feature will persist and continue to expand and evolve over time as Rockstar Games comes out with more features to it. In fact, many are already expecting an update in the future that will bring the ability to revisit Liberty City from the fourth game, but that is just a rumor at this point.

"Grand Theft Auto V Online" will allow you and your friends to travel the city of Los Santos with a customized character and tackle missions, elective activities, ambient events and other competitive and cooperative things around the city.

Your customized character doesn't just have the look you want, you can choose to increase his or her stats, own property and cars or just go around increasing your reputation and money to open up a new bevy of opportunities for you and your friends, according to IGN.

"Multiplayer is an ever-more important part of all our games moving forward.  By creating crews through Social Club, the crews that you create in Max Payne 3 will be ready and available for you to play in Grand Theft Auto V from day one," said Rockstar Games' boss Dan Houser.
