Dutch Victoria's Secret model Yfke Sturm woke up from a medically induced coma after fracturing her skull in a surfing accident off the Italian island of Ischia, People reported. Italian newspapers reported that Sturm showed signs of improvement once waking from her coma.

The 33-year-old model was on vacation in Ischia when she fell off a jet surf, a motorized surfboard, the Daily Mail reported. She was hit in the head by another surfer while trying to swim to safety. The Italian Coast Guard rescued her and she was airlifted to a hospital in Naples where she is being treated.

Sturm has modeled for designers like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, according to the Mirror. She also enjoyed a TV gig as the host of Holland's version of "Next Top Model." Next Models, the modeling agency that represents Sturm in the UK, released a statement after learning about her accident.

"We are shocked to hear about this terrible accident," the agency's statement read, according to the Telegraph. "Our thoughts are with Yfke and her family at this time and we are praying for her speedy recovery."

The tragic accident comes one month after Sturm gave birth to her first child, Alexander. She posted a sweet photo holding her newborn son on her Facebook page last month. It is rumored that she shares Alexander with her boyfriend, 24-year-old French supermodel Constance Jablonski.
