Face it, no matter how much you're told to love the way you look, a bad photo can crush the spirit. But don't fret, as there are ways to look slimmer and nail the perfect look in every picture. There are no photography tricks or apps here, but just pure awareness of how you should project your awesomeness on camera.

1. Slightly tilt your head so that your chin is sticking out and your double chin isn't obvious. You'll need to accentuate your jawline to look thinner in pictures, according to Lifehacker.

Below is a video demonstration of how to do the proper head tilt:

For more emphasis, slowly run your tongue on the roof of your mouth as you smile. Model and TV personality Heidi Klum has been rumored to do this trick a lot, according to ACS Studios.

2. Don't take photos from a low angle as it will make you look heavy. The best angle should have the camera positioned above your eye line, according to Who What Wear. If you look up, your neck and torso will look elongated and thinner.

3. Put your hands on your hip and let your arms out. Ever notice this pose among celebrities at the red carpet? It's because it makes the arms appear slimmer and gives the torso more definition. Kim Kardashian does this pose a lot, according to Swide.

4. For group shots or full body shots, angle your body to a 3/4 turn, away from the lens. Then put one leg to your front side and slightly bend this. Staring and standing straight towards the camera is unflattering. "Anything close to the camera will look bigger than it actually is. Anything far from the camera will look smaller," said photographer Rebecca Danzenbaker.

5. If you're sitting down, sit with your legs crossed, as this will make your calves and thighs appear thinner. Avoid slouching and pull your shoulders back to emphasize your collarbone and arms.
