"Jurassic World," "Inside Out" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" all propelled this summer's box office to its second most profitable ever. The Universal Pictures and Disney Studios films brought in $4.48 billion from May 1 though Labor Day, which was up 10 percent from last summer's earnings, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Last summer's box office showing was the worst in seven years. This year's box office numbers only come second to 2013 when more than $4.75 billion was made and admissions topped off at 587 million, reported Variety.

Disney and Universal had an especially good summer and ate up 60 percent of the earnings where studios like Sony completely lagged behind due to flops like "Aloha" and "Pixels." Outside of "Ted 2," Universal had a killer summer thanks to sleeper hits like "Straight Outta Compton." The studio's domestic take-in was an incredible $1.5 billion-plus to date and was north of $6 billion in global box-office revenue, a first for any studio. The studio claimed three of the top five grossing summer hits, which included "Jurassic World," "Minions" and "Pitch Perfect 2." Worldwide "Jurassic World" was the number one movie of 2015 with $1.65 billion, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Disney generated an estimated $1.09 billion domestically and commanded 25 percent of the marker share thanks to "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Inside Out" and "Ant-Man." Disney and Universal were up sharply over last summer, while Fox, Paramount and Sony saw steep declines.
