Thanks to the ever-expanding "X-Men" universe, 20th Century Fox still appears to be in good shape when it comes to their comic book properties. But no one is arguing that Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" reboot wasn't a complete disaster.

The film was universally panned by critics and failed to make a mark at the box office, earning just $155 million worldwide against a reported budget of $120 million (not including marketing costs). Production was also plagued by reports of bizarre behavior, in-house fighting and extensive re-shoots. Despite all this, Fox claims to be pushing forward with its plans for a "Fantastic Four" franchise, although Trank will assuredly not be a part of it.

So who would want to assume control of this dumpster fire? Apparently Tommy Wiseau - director, writer and star of the cult classic "The Room."  Wiseau was discussing his other projects with Milwaukee Magazine when he offered his name for any potential sequel.

"You know, I told you I saw this Fantastic Four...it just ...I'm not being critical - let me put it this way: I like it, I did enjoy it number one. Number two, it's too bad they didn't call me, that's all I want to say and I rest my case. That's all I can tell you. Good response in Europe though, that's my understanding, but it's too bad they didn't call me. That's my point. Maybe if there's a sequel, you know. You know, maybe your article gets me that job, who knows what will happen.

"You know what, I tell you what - I'm very open, I'll give you [the writer] my commission fee."

The odds of Fox actually moving forward with a "Fantastic Four" sequel seem very slim, meaning Wiseau is likely to be disappointed. In addition, Wiseau's "so bad it's good" reputation as a filmmaker is probably not the direction Fox would want to go in if they did decide to make a follow up to a much maligned film.

But, hey, a boy can dream, right?

We'll keep you updated as Fox's plans for the future of the "Fantastic Four" become more clear.
