Jrue Holiday had surgery on his lower right leg that he is currently recovering from. The recovery is apparently coming along pretty well as Holiday is expected to be cleared to participate in New Orleans Pelicans training camp. While Holiday may be able to take part in training camp it is reportedly unlikely that he is fully involved as the Pelicans will put some restrictions on him, according to John Reid of The Times Picayune.

Holiday was an All-Star in the 2012-13 season with the Philadelphia 76ers before they traded him to the Pelicans that offseason. In his two seasons with the Pelicans Holiday has dealt with a myriad of injuries and has only played in 74 games out of a possible 164. Holiday and the Pelicans are hopeful that he will be able to remain healthy this year so that can run the point and help the Pelicans take another step forward after making the playoffs a season ago.

Head coach Alvin Gentry expects Holiday to particpate in a lot of training camp but when two-a-days are scheduled Holiday will likely only take part in one of the two sessions. If Holiday is healthy he will be the starting point guard for the Pelicans with Tyreke Evans moving over to the wing alongside Eric Gordon.

Holiday has already played six seasons in the NBA but is still just 25 years old and is supremely talented so having him healthy along with the other talent they have on the roster, including budding mega star Anthony Davis, should bode very well for the Pelicans. It is important for Holiday to get in work with the Pelicans at training camp but easing him in is likely the smart decision here to ensure that he is healthy entering the regular season.

In the 74 games Holiday has played with the Pelicans he has averaged 14.6 points and 7.3 assists while shooting 45 percent from the field and 38 percent from three. All of those numbers are better than his numbers while with the 76ers so if the Pelicans can get a healthy Holiday for a full season they have a chance to be a very dangerous team in the Western Conference.
