A Florida family was shocked to learn that the chemicals used to fumigate their home may have caused their 10-year-old son severe brain damage, with up to 90 percent of his motor skills currently non functioning.

The boy's family said that Sunland Pest Control fumigated their home and were told by the company that it was okay to return to their house on Aug. 16, but soon after returning, the family started to exhibit what they believed at the time were flu-like symptoms, according to ABC News.

However, 10-year-old Peyton McCaughey exhibited the most extreme symptoms, having impaired motor functions and the inability to move and speak.

Doctors were able to quickly diagnose his condition upon arrival at the hospital and began treating him immediately. McCaughey has been hospitalized at three different facilities over the course of two weeks, WNEP reported.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services have issued a stop work order to the pest control company, preventing them from conducting anymore fumigations.

The family's lawyer says they have evidence that points to the young boy being poisoned by the fumigation chemicals.

Sunland Pest Control is a subcontractor of Terminex.

"We are saddened to learn of this and our hearts are with the family. We are carefully reviewing the matter," Terminex said in a statement, according to WPBF.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help support their son through the upcoming months of physical therapy and treatment.

"It has become apparent that it will be much longer than weeks; but, hopefully it will be months, not years, of recovery time," the family said on their funding page.
