UPDATE: The Eagles have confirmed the trade, but Tebow's status still remains in limbo.

The Philadelphia Eagles are shipping off one of their quarterbacks to the Arizona Cardinals, and it's believed the move will make room for Tim Tebow, who has been subject to countless rumors regarding whether or not he would make the team's 53-man roster to start the season.

Philadelphia agreed to trade Matt Barkley to the Cardinals for a conditional seventh-round pick (which is guaranteed if Barkley remains on Arizona's roster for six games), according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move, as Schefter touches upon, indicates a greater likelihood that Tebow will make the Eagles' roster heading into Week 1.

"The move would appear to open a spot for Tim Tebow to make the Eagles, as he had been battling Barkley to be the third quarterback behind starter Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez," ESPN added.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer first reported the talks between the Eagles and Cardinals.

Tebow put on a good performance in the Eagles' preseason finale against the New York Jets to help his case. The former first-round pick finished 11-of-17 for 189 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 32 yards on nine carries.

He finished the preseason 21-of-36 with 286 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in addition to 14 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown in those four games.

On the other hand, Barkley seemingly failed to take that next step the team may have been expecting him to make. The 24-year-old finished 27-of-52 for 351 yards and two interceptions, which lost him the third-string quarterback job to Tebow last night.

Due to the injury history surrounding Sam Bradford and head coach Chip Kelly's desire for depth at the quarterback position, it appears as if Tebow will be on the 53-man roster when the Eagles submit their official 53-man roster on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.

Stay tuned for updates on Tebow's status.
