"Operation Railsafe" is a new initiative set forth by Homeland Security with cooperation from Transportation Security and Amtrak to help travelers feel safer during their Labor Day weekend travels, according to WTOP.

Fears of railway safety stem from the recent terrorism attack on a French train, where a gunman opened fire during a trip from Amsterdam to Paris, injuring five people.

The secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, said that Operation Railsafe would entail stationing more officers and canine units all over the country, according to USA Today.

"You will see on days like today increased presence, increased random screening involving personnel, involving canines, and we do this several times a year," he said.

The plan isn't expected to be easy, however, as even TSA officials are admitting to the intricate and "complex" system that would need to be in place in order to cover all the potential access points and security breaches, according ABC News.

In response to the vastly increasing number of attacks on mass transit and the like, TSA created the Visible Inter-modal Prevention and response squads, or VIPR, to basically adapt to the needs of any transportation security need across the country.

Members of the team are armed and work in conjunction with transit security.
