U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump will sign a loyalty pledge on Thursday that states he will not run as an independent candidate if he loses the Republican nomination, according to Reuters. The news comes after previous claims by Trump that he would make a third-party bid if he lost the Republican nomination.

"I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party and the conservative principles for which it stands," he said. "We will go out and fight hard, and we will win. We will win."

Republican National Committee leaders have been working to ensure that Trump signs a pledge to quell their fears stemming from Trump's unpredictable nature, according to Yahoo! News.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush has stated that he would back Trump if he won the GOP convention next year, although he's not completely comfortable with the idea, according to The Washington Post.

"I think Mr. Trump ought to figure out a way maybe to lessen the divisive language, the hurtful language and talk about the aspirations of the American people rather than trying to prey on their fears," Bush said.

Despite Trump's current lead in opinion polls, he has caused division within the Republican party due to his brash style and unorthodox tax proposals, as covered by HNGN.

If Trump followed through with previous claims and ran for independent candidacy in the November 2016 election, the Republican Party would likely split and the Democrats would receive a boost in support.
