News that Tiger Memon, the criminal mastermind behind the deadly 1993 terror attack in Mumbai that left 257 people dead, has proven to be false, with the police arresting an impostor, Furqan, instead. Furqan had been using the notorious criminal's name online to threaten and blackmail girls in social media before the police were able to apprehend him during a raid in Karachi, Pakistan on Wednesday, reports NDTV.

Due to Furqan's online persona, his arrest brought widespread speculation that it was the real Memon that was arrested. Memon, alleged to be the mastermind behind the deadly 1993 terror attack, has been wanted for years by the CBI, reports Zee News India. He has been reported to have flown to Dubai after the incident and has been in hiding ever since.

His brother, Yakub Memon, has recently been executed at the Nagpur Central Jail on July 30 this year. He was sentenced to death by hanging by the Supreme Court of India. The 54-year old brother was sentenced to death in 2007 for handling finances required to carry out the deadly terror attack in 1993, as covered in this HNGN article.

According to reports, Tiger Memon called up his family hours before his brother was executed. Talking to his mother, he pledged to avenge his younger brother's death.
