Neve Campbell cheated death multiple times in Wes Craven's "Scream" series as heroine Sidney Prescott. The actress remembered the late director not only for artistry but also for his sense of humor and kindness.

"We lost a great deal of magic yesterday. I'm devastated to hear of Wes's passing," the actress said in a statement Monday, according to Hollywood Life. "My life wouldn't be what it is without him. I will be forever grateful for his brilliant direction, his wicked sense of humor and his consummate kindness and friendship. He has entertained us all for decades and inspired so many to follow in his path. I loved Wes dearly and will miss him always. Thank you Wes!!!"

A legendary horror movie director, Craven was best known for films like "The Hills Have Eyes," "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream," reported Entertainment Weekly.

"It is with deep sadness we inform you that Wes Craven passed away at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, after battling brain cancer," his family wrote in a statement, according to BuzzFeed News. "He was 76 years old. Craven was surrounded by love, in the presence of his family at home in Los Angeles."

Other "Scream" series alums took to Twitter to remember the late director. The stars included Rose McGowan, Courteney Cox, and Skeet Ulrich.
