Authorities in New York have charged a Batavia woman with murder after an acquaintance found her daughter's lifeless body, allegedly having been dead for months, according to NY Daily News.

Christina Colantonio, 28, has been charged with second degree murder for the death of her daughter.

The baby girl's body was confirmed by authorities Thursday after a friend of Colantonion found the baby's body during a visit to her apartment; upon discovery of the body the woman called 911, according to Fox News.

Authorities would not release details on the baby's death, but Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman said that the evidence points to unnatural causes, stating that it was "an intentional death," according to PIX11.

Authorities have hypothesized from the evidence at hand that Colantonio's baby was killed shortly after its birth three months ago and that Colantonio was possibly living with the dead child's body.

Todd Crossett of the Batavia police said that the officers who discovered the baby's corpse are being offered counseling in response to the horrific find.

"It's not something you see on a regular basis. They (police officers) are the most vulnerable part of the population," said Crossett.

Police say that Colantonio also has two other children, but they did not stay with her in the apartment.
