Noel Biderman, CEO of Ashley Madison's parent company Avid Life Media Inc., stepped down Friday.

The decision to step down was a joint one between him and other senior members of management, after the site fell victim to a hack that exposed the personal information of millions of users, according to a press release.

Until the company finds a new CEO to take his place, the senior management currently in place will lead the company, according to NBC News.

"This change is in the best interest of the company and allows us to continue to provide support to our members and dedicated employees," Avid Life Media said in the release. "We are steadfast in our commitment to our customer base."

The company states it is cooperating with international law enforcement, while working to restore itself after the hack and will continue to offer its services to remaining members, according to CNN.

A hacker, or group of hackers, known as the Impact Team claimed responsibility for the security breach last week. They exposed the email addresses, names and other information from millions of users of the site. This revelation came as shock to users worldwide because they had paid extra to have that information deleted. The company is now facing multiple lawsuits around the world.

Both Avid Life Media and Ashley Madison did not respond to request for comment.
