Sam Clovis, who was managing Gov. Rick Perry's Iowa presidential campaign, will now join forces with Donald Trump. Clovis will become Trump's policy advisor and national co-chairman, according to The Tea Party website. He has quit working on the Rick Perry presidential campaign to support the current front-runner in the polls. Trump leads the other Republicans who are vying to win the primary election.

"I had an opportunity to get to know Mr. Trump over the past several months...I have some close friends working on the campaign. It's a great opportunity for me to effect [sic] change in Washington, and I think Mr. Trump is exactly the person to do that," Clovis said in a statement, The Tea Party reported.

Previously, the Perry campaign had to cut funding to some staffers. Losing a key person is another hard blow to Perry's presidential hopes. Now, the campaign is planning to revamp itself, according to CNN.

"We've obviously been doing some retooling...A huge majority of our people have stuck with us. This is a marathon, not a sprint," said Jeff Miller, Perry campaign manager.

After exiting the campaign, Clovis called the former Texas governor a "remarkable man" and wished him well on the upcoming 2016 election, according to UPI. "Gov. Perry remains committed to competing in Iowa, as well as South Carolina and New Hampshire," said Lucy Nashed, a spokesperson for Perry.
