Being able to swim in a pool in the sky has long been regarded a foolish dream by many, but now the London-based Ballymore Group is working to make that dream become reality.

City officials have given developers the OK to begin the construction of the Ballymore Group's brainchild, which will be 90 feet long with water four feet deep and elevated 10 stories above the air. The pool will also connect two luxury apartment buildings upon its completion. It's glass floor, measured at just under 8 inches thick, is designed to give swimmers the sensation of "floating in the sky," the Ballymore Group said, according to CNN.

Ballymore Group CEO Sean Mulryan says the creation of the new luxury pool can be attributed to the advancements in technology, construction and engineering.

"My vision for the Sky Pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering," Mulryan said, who first came up with the idea for the pool, according to Yahoo! News. "The Sky Pool's transparent structure is the result of significant advancements in technologies over the last decade. The experience of the pool will be truly unique; it will feel like floating through the air in central London."

The project is the latest example of London's property boom, which saw the city's real estate increase by $1.5 trillion over the past five years.

Prices for apartments and penthouses in the complex will start at around $1 million, reported The Verge. The Ballymore Group expects the first apartments to be occupied in 2018.
